Destination Brief · Birthplace of the Saudi State
Diriyah is the birthplace of the Saudi state, a UNESCO World Heritage mud-brick city on the edge of Riyadh that once ruled the Arabian Peninsula. At its heart, At-Turaif District rises above Wadi Hanifa, its restored clay palaces telling the story of the First Saudi State.
Within the historic walls, visitors explore the Mosque of Imam Mohammed bin Abdulwahab, Salwa Palace, and the new Diriyah Museum, then wind through Albujairi Heritage Park's restaurants and cafes for evening views back across the valley. Diriyah hosts major annual events including the Diriyah E-Prix and Formula E Championship. Direct train and highway connections from Riyadh make it an easy half-day or full-day trip. Book a licensed guide below to explore At-Turaif and the wider heritage district.
